Monthly Program for homeschoolers: One-off sessions. Second Friday of the month: September – November
Spring School Holiday Program: September 25th to 29th
NSCF Earth Kids programs are about supporting kids to become ‘nature smart’ – to have the knowledge, understandings and skills to engage in creating a more sustainable world – in a fun and interactive way.
It is an experiential program of outdoor discovery, in which kids will learn about the animals and plants at the Farm through observation and supported questioning; explore Indigenous knowledge; experiment with Earth Arts and bushcraft skills; and put permaculture into practice.
Each program differs according to the seasons and to include a diversity of activities. Some of the activities will be:
Gardening – planting, harvesting, composting, bush tucker and learning about seasonal changes;
Bushcraft – building shelters, making string, making fires;
Earth Arts – creativity using natural materials;
Indigenous understanding – storytelling, cultural sharing;
Earth connection – daily ‘sit spots’, mapping, wandering and other activities to support understanding of the web of life and the elements that all life is made of.
School Holiday Programs: The program is for kids aged 7 to 12 years of age, and runs from Monday to Friday from 9am to 3pm each day (drop off from 8.30am and pick up until 3.30pm). After the last day there will be a celebration with parents and families. The next program is being held from September 25th to 29th.
Monthly Program for homeschoolers: The program is for kids aged 6 to 12 years of age, and runs 1 Friday per month from 9am to 3pm each day. The dates are: 8th September, 13th October, 10th November and 8th December, 2017 (2nd Fridays of the month). We have opened up several places each day for kids to attend just for one day – $66 for Health Care Card Holders and $88 full (GST inclusive) per child. Any day except the final day can be chosen for this.
Parents are welcome to join in the homeschool program, and there are several places available at $150 for children whose parents volunteer on the program. Contact Emma at firstname.lastname@example.org if you are interested in this. Parents with younger children are welcome to join the free playgroup held at the farm on Fridays while the Earth Kids program is being run.
