Groups Tours and Activities

Take a guided tour through the food gardens, fruit orchards, food forests, recycling systems and enterprises of NSCF. Learn about permaculture and sustainable living in the city and gather ideas for your own group.

Groups of up to 8 people can join our free public tour of the Farm on the first Tuesday of each month from 9:30am-10:30am. Please book your small group for the Tuesday Tour by emailing info@nscf.org.au.

For groups of more than 8 people, or on times other than Tuesday morning, please contact us to arrange a paid group tour.

Our tours and experiences are suitable for groups of all ages, including gardening clubs, community, local government and business groups, university and college groups, international visitors, out of school hours care (OSHC) groups as well as birthday parties. They may include a hands-on activity or focus area – see ‘Options and Pricing’ section below.

Tours and activities are hosted by our experienced Education Team members. We will tailor the tour to suit your interests

Options, Pricing & Bookings

Prices are for weekdays only and are on a per person basis. Weekends may be arranged upon request and will have a higher cost.

Bookings are not paid until after each visit, so there is no financial commitment to make a tentative booking.

To ensure arrangements can be made, a minimum advance notice of three weeks is usually sufficient. We will contact you to confirm the details and booking.

Options include:

Take an interactive and sensory walk through the food gardens, fruit orchards, food forests, and recycling systems of Northey Street City Farm. Meet the farm and wildlife which make NSCF their safe haven and taste the delicious honey from our bees. 

Cost: $16 per person ($250 group minimum) GST inclusive.

Take an interactive and sensory walk through the food gardens, fruit orchards, food forests, and recycling systems of Northey Street City Farm. Then, undertake one of the following hands-on activities: 

  • Compost-making

  • Explore the different compost systems on the farm, experience what is needed to create compost, and learn about its benefits. 

  • Cost: $20 per person ($300 minimum) GST inclusive.

  •  

  • Propagation

  • Discuss different methods of propagation and get your hands dirty while propagating some of the plants found around our gardens. 

Cost: $22 per person ($320 minimum) GST inclusive.

 

  • Soil investigation

  • Investigate soil health and explore its role in the web of life. Collect soil samples from our gardens and conduct tests to understand the elements that may impact plant growth and erosion. 

Cost: $20 per person ($300 minimum) GST inclusive.

 

  • Native Foods exploration – Take a walk around the farm to explore the smells, textures, and tastes of some Australian native plants. 

Cost: $20 per person ($300 minimum) GST inclusive.

 

  • Salad-making

  • Harvest fresh leaf greens, edible flowers, and fruits from our gardens and orchards to create a nutritious and delicious salad to share with your group. This hands-on activity is subjected to seasons and produce availability.

  • Cost: $22 per person ($320 minimum) GST inclusive.

  •  

    • Earth Connection – Take a sensory walk through the bush regeneration area and observe the flora and fauna around you. This grounding activity may involve learning bird language, practicing sit spots, and/or nature journaling. 

    Cost: $20 per person ($300 minimum) GST inclusive.

  •  

    • Eco-arts making – Express your creativity using natural, repurposed, and recyclable materials. This grounding, sensory activity may involve making clay sculptures, painting with natural pigments, or creating ephemeral art pieces. 

  • Cost: $22 per person ($320 minimum) GST inclusive.

Experience the Farm in a fun and engaging way! This is a great option for Outside School Hours Care groups. Choose from one of the following combinations:

Farm adventure + nature games (2h) – The adventure experience may include activities such as a treasure hunt, bird watching, seasonal observations, tasting, and tree climbing. Participants will also enjoy nature-based games that expand their senses and foster a deeper connection with the outdoors, while having fun.

Cost: $22 p/participant ($320 group minimum) GST inclusive

 

Farm adventure + gardening (2h)

The adventure experience may include activities such as a treasure hunt, bird watching, seasonal observations, tasting, and tree-climbing. For the gardening session, depending on the season, participants may be invited to plant, make seed balls, investigate soil creatures, make compost, build insect habitats, and/or do some weeding, mulching and watering.

Cost: $24 p/participant ($350 group minimum)

 

Farm adventure + Seasonal Arts and Crafts (2h)

The adventure experience may include activities such as a treasure hunt, bird watching, seasonal observations, tasting, and tree climbing.

Then, participants are invited to express their creativity using natural, repurposed, and recyclable materials to design amazing artwork!

This grounding, sensory activity may involve making clay sculptures, painting with natural pigments, or creating ephemeral art pieces.

Cost: $24 p/participant ($350 group minimum) GST inclusive

 

Shelter building + Nature-based games (2.5h)

Participants are invited to flex their muscles and build some awesome kid-sized shelters in the woodlot using bamboo grown at the Farm! Then, enjoy nature-based games to expand their senses and foster a deeper connection with the outdoors.

Cost: $26 p/participant ($380 group minimum) GST inclusive
