Bush Kindy at Northey Street

Nature Play & Learning for Little Adventurers!

Looking for a meaningful, hands-on outdoor experience for your early learners?

Join us for Bush Kindy, our program for Early Education Centres and Community groups.

Our Bush Kindy sessions offer children the chance to reconnect with nature, explore food gardens and bushland, create with natural materials, and learn through play in a vibrant urban permaculture environment and a supportive community.

NSCF Bush Kindy sessions are designed to foster a deep connection to the Earth, encourage care for Country, and support children to engage curiously and confidently within nature.

For individuals, we hold a playgroup on Tuesdays and Fridays. See: Earth Arts & Playgroups – Northey Street City Farm

What we can offer:

– Nature-based play and discovery
– Gardening and seasonal farm activities
– Bushcraft skills, including shelter building, camp fire cooking, flora and fauna exploration
– Stories, song, and sensory exploration
– Grounding in the permaculture ethics of People Care, Earth Care and Fair share and exploration of seasonal cycles
– Single-day, half- or full-term sessions led by experienced NSCF educators
– Option to hire our space if you would prefer to lead your own session

What is permaculture?

Permaculture is a way of thinking that teaches us to observe nature’s patterns and understand how natural systems work. Childhood, with its natural curiosity and love of play, is the perfect time to develop this deep connection with the living world. Learn more about permaculture.

Testimonial:

“Brookes Street Early Education has been participating in the Bush Kindy program at Northey Street City Farm since 2021, and it has been such a rewarding and enriching experience for both children and educators.

The program offers children the opportunity to deeply connect with nature in an authentic and engaging way. Each visit provides unique learning experiences, from exploring the natural environment to building resilience and problem-solving skills, to developing respect and care for the land.

Bush Kindy at Northey Street has become one of the highlights of our curriculum. The children talk about their experiences long after our visits, and we see how it positively impacts their sense of curiosity, confidence, and love of the natural world.

We highly recommend this program to other services. It not only enriches children’s learning but also provides educators with the joy of leading meaningful outdoor experiences alongside the children.”
