OMG! got some cocoa from the place that has bags and bags and bags of legumes, chocolate covered almonds(which were the best I've ever tasted) lentils, coffe beans etc etc...the list goes on, but i have to tell you about the smell....yes, the smell. As I stood looking around me, wondering if I really needed anything from here I could smell something. Something strong and delicious....I know that smell I thought, and I proceeded to follow my nose to the source. There it was...the BIGGEST bag of cocoa I've ever seen....yes, this is what I could smell....so choclately, and rich and divine. So, now what do I do! I know what I want to buy, extravagent by all means going by the price per kilo on the protruding handwritten sign poking out of this aztec gold.....but what the hell, I had to have some, even if only a little. After locating a scoop I gently measured out one, then a little bit more for good luck. Yep, that was enough. Once home, I sampled my other delicacies, the sticky butterscotch gingerbread, and I had a bite of the spelt brownie that I bought for my son and hubby to try...both delicious. The cocoa still sat on the bench in it's brown crumpled bag and over the week I would catch myself looking at it wondering what will I do with you. After watching master chef one night(hubby sitting next to me wondering with awe how I knew so many different cakes in the "name the cake" challenge...have you seen my cookbooks, I reminded him...he decided that it was a perfectly cold night for some of nan nans self saucing choc pudding...its only 7:40-you have plenty of time he says....so I decided to use my REAL cocoa...well, thats was the best choc self saucing pudding i have ever tasted....SOOOOOO delicious, but wait...there's more......Saturday night would bring my mother's 68th birthday, and an aunt and uncle to stay the night from over Toowooomba way....Poor aunty can't eat gluten so I thought I would make a Flourless Chocolate cake for all to enjoy....Thinking I would not have enough REAL cocoa for her cake I retrieved the last of my Cadburys Baking cocoa out of the pantry for a top up and when I put the two next to each other and saw the difference in colour, texture and smell I decied then and there that I would never, NEVER again buy processed, packaged, insipid Cadbury cocoa again. UGH! It looked awful...I've been eating this stuff all my life! You could never in a million years compare this real, delicious cocoa to the pale, "flavoured" cocoa out of a packet....I'm converted and I will convert everyone I know to go the way of the real stuff....the flavour when used for baking is amazing....and yes, the cake was DELICIOUS!!!!!!!!!! (my hubby that is not a cake eater-I know right, what's up with that-contemplated having a THIRD piece because it was sooooo good, and I put it all down to the cocoa...so, Northey Street Organic Markets-get used to seeing me there, even if it's only for your cocoa, all the way from Narangba.....:)
