POSITION DESCRIPTION

Position:                              Information Team Manager   

Award:                                 Northey Street City Farm (NSCF) Staff Agreement – permanent part time

Hours:                                  20 hours per week over 3 days (must include Tuesday and Thursday)   

Pay rate:                               NSCF Award Agreement Level L3, $31.25 per hour, including entitlements as defined in the NSCF Staff Agreement

Contract Position:                Permanent Part-time

The person will need a working knowledge of human resource management, public relations, and community liaison, and possess high level communication skills to interact effectively with people both internal and external to the organisation.

 

Organisation

Established in 1994, Northey Street City Farm (NSCF) is a non-profit community organisation for people of all ages and backgrounds to learn the principles of Permaculture through hands-on experience. Join an enthusiastic, passionate group of people to work on one of Australia’s largest city farm; a certified Organic Permaculture site on 6 acres, established kitchen and market gardens as well as orchards and wood-lot, plus Brisbane’s only Organic Sunday Farmers Markets. NSCF is also a community hub that facilitates the development of social connections and new skills for volunteers and participants in a variety of Programs. Responsibilities

 

1.     Management and HR functions

  • Assist the Management Committee in the development, enactment and review of key policy and planning documents to guide activities on the Farm through an appropriate consultation process
  • Develop and implement a long-term strategic program for recruiting, managing, training and retaining staff
  • Coordinate staff recruitment, induction, orientation, and performance review processes
  • Manage staff and volunteers within the Information Team (including Education Coordinator, Admin/Finance Officer, Membership Secretary, IT Group, Grants Group, Librarian)
  • Actively engage and consult with other Farm Managers
  • Organise and facilitate Information Team meetings
  • Participate in fortnightly Team Reps meetings
  • Provide monthly reports to the MC
  • Prepare and manage budgets and be accountable for any Team related cash handling systems
  • Support and coordinate the Grants Group activities in applying for external funding relating to Information Team projects

 

 

2.     Volunteer Coordination

  • Manage NSCF volunteer program to recruit, train and retain volunteers
  • Liaise with volunteers at the farm ensuring that tasks match volunteers’ abilities, interests and aspirations
  • Engage with Volunteer Supervisors to ensure that volunteers are allocated to identified tasks and the Farms needs are met
  • Carry out or coordinate the weekly Farm tour and induction/orientation program for new volunteers, and WH&S induction
  • Keep the NSCF volunteer Handbook updated and well stocked
  • Work with the Site and Events Manager to organise or coordinate occasional volunteer events (e.g. annual volunteer’s breakfast)

 

3.      Internal and Public Relations

  • Develop and maintain Farm promotional resources
  • Facilitate the resourcing and rostering of the Sunday Information stall
  • Provide resources and facilitate promotional presence at internal and external events
  • Develop and manage internal communication strategies (e.g. signs, notice-boards)
  • Coordinate and/or create the monthly eNews and annual Magazine (December)
  • Manage NSCF website and other related social media
  • Engage with private, community, and public sectors to promote NSCF, receive proposals, consult the stakeholders and formulate recommendations to Team Reps and Management Committee
  • Media liaison and coordination
  • Maintain consistency and quality control through approval of all-of-Farm promotional material prior to its public release.
  • Liaise with relevant staff for the preparation and administration of grants and programs as appropriate

 

 

Selection Criteria

Essential

  • Strong interpersonal, networking and communication skills, including the ability to lead and facilitate meetings
  • Permaculture Design Course (PDC) or willingness to acquire
  • Ability to work within an interdependent teams structure
  • Ability to prepare and manage budgets
  • People management skills including capacity building, conflict resolution and team building
  • Demonstrated organisational and program management skills
  • Experience in managing website content and social media
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement a promotional strategy

 

Desirable

  • Experience working in community/not for profit organisations
  • Volunteer Coordination and program management experience
  • Grant writing experience
  • Experience using InDesign or similar desktop publishing program

Working Environment

Northey Street City Farm is a non-profit community project on the banks of Brisbane’s Breakfast Creek in the inner city suburb of Windsor. It has been developed for people to enjoy and participate in using the principles of Permaculture. It is also intended to be a demonstration site where people of all ages can learn through practical, hands on experience.
