Fermenters’ kitchen. Saturday 11 June. 9 am to 4 pm at The Peace Hall under Albion Overpass. Expand your bacterial horizons, cultivate your prebiotic oligosaccharides and join us for a day of cultured beverages, foraged fruits, pickled veggies and other wild microbial wonders.
In this hands-on workshop you’ll learn the art of traditional food processing and get to sample and enjoy healthy and nutritious fermented food…..
Historically, natural food ferments were a regular constituent of our diets. Yet the widespread adoption of refrigeration, chemical preservatives, commercial yeasts and pasteurisation have all contributed to a decline in consumption and enjoyment of these wondrous foods.
The regular consumption of fermented foods can:
- aid digestion and reduce food intolerances
- increase the body’s ability to absorb and synthesise food and nutrients
- introduce vitamins including folic acid, pyroxine, riboflavin and biotin available
- help reduce our dependence on fossil fuels
- be fun and inexpensive!
This full-day workshop will introduce participants to a number of nutritious and delicious natural fermentation recipes including:
- sauerkraut & kim-chi
- tempeh
- kombucha
- kefir & more!
Participants will be given the opportunity to take home their very own starter cultures for all ferments used on the day along with a hand-out that details the steps and recipes covered in the workshop. $95 full fee/$75 concession including materials and lunch.

Sounds great and I’m looking forward to it.
