Winter Solstice 2009 – Our Thanks

Thank you to all our performers, cooks, artists, organizers, cleaners, donators of food and prizes, volunteers, raffle ticket buyers and friends who came – for making this a very special event.
This is a unique community, and that we can feast, dance, greet and affirm in such a joyous and respectful atmosphere speaks highly of this city farm and its associated community.
All those who contributed in a major way, along with the financial result and raffle results will be published when we recover a little more energy.
In the meantime though, I’d like to relate that the volunteer coordinators were awesome: Karen and Bob (Kid’s & Art Program), Rob & Lindsay (Infrastructure & Site), Bunya (Bands & Performance Program), Simon (Bonfire & Soup), Kym & Geoffrey (Cob Oven), Hilda, Mal, Julie and Karen (Kitchen), Emma (Info Stall), Llew (Stage, Light & Sound), Sue (Signage). Also, so many volunters helped out through the week and on the day. How many hours in total? Hundreds. Remuneration? Nil. Gratitude? Unlimited.
We can also say here and now though, that the farm generated a surplus that will be used to both develop infrastructure for greater community usage of the site (for events and general community use), as well as to support a permaculture project in Uganda. The donations for the flood appeal will go towards replacing the chai cafe coffee machine and office equipment.
We welcome feedback and suggestions for future events – not just the Winter Solstice and our Equinox events, but also other possibilities. The activity coordinators will meet and de-brief this coming Thursday 2nd July, so we’d welcome your thoughts by then if possible, to community [at] nscf.org.au
Already we know that there will be a greater emphasis on teams of volunteers & our sister groups having more autonomy in the planning and delivery, and that we will be bringing forth the Goddess!
Thank you for your support in this and other activities at Northey Street City Farm.
May the abundance for all that we danced for around the fire last Saturday night permeate all our lives.
And happy next lap of the sun to all.
Rossco (Event Coordinator)
