THIS TUESDAY – Blitzing the Neighbourhood

In the transition to a sustainable world, how can we bring about effective change at the Neighbourhood scale?

Gavin Hardy, a Brisbane-based landscape architect and permaculture designer, recently completed the Whole Farm Plan for Northey Street City Farm by working with the local community over a five year period.

In this eye-opening presentation, Gavin shares his insights into larger scale community design, including what permaculturalists can offer, the traps and pitfalls, and the skill sets required. This event will be open to the general public and any funds raised on the night will go towards Permablitz.  (Thanks, Gav!)

Time: August 2, 2011 from 6:30pm to 8:30pm
Location: Kurilpa Hall, 174 Boundary Street, West End
Contact: designers-guild@blitzbrisbane.org

Entry is by gold coin donation, and there will be dinner and other goods for sale.

Cob oven building workshop: this Saturday

Join us for what is likely to be the only cob oven building workshop we’ll host this year. Learn to build an efficient baking earth oven capable of cooking anything from pizzas to roasts, breads and cake to drying foods. We’ll actually build an oven during the workshop, as well as discuss the design behind it and how to use it.

Bookings essential. See our Courses and workshops page for more information and booking details, or call 07 3857 8775 to book you place.

Chai Cafe News

Buskers at the Chai Cafe
We love buskers and the music they play.  In fact, we’d love to encourage more!  The Chai Cafe is now offering a $10 voucher to one Sunday busking act each week.  To learn more, email Andrea on andrea.cameron82@gmail.com, or simply leave a comment below.

A Note of Thanks
David Gilmour of Current Electrical Wilston was recently inspired by our work at the farm during our weekly “Planting for Pizzas” cooking session (11am every Wednesday), and generously offered Cafe electrical work for free.  We offer our sincerest thanks and recommendation.
