Due to the inclement weather this afternoon’s and evening’s activities are cancelled. We have been unable to harvest and prepare the feast. (And dry wood is scarce!) Stay tuned for an April Community Harvest event.
P.S. The natural beer brewing, with farm-grown hops, was very successful this morning. Thank you Simeon!
A Seasonal Harvest of Weeds and Wild Foods – Sunday 20th March
Come and join us for our monthly “Harvest Day” from Northey Street’s autumn abundance of fruit, veggies, weeds, wild foods, herbs and bush tucker. Together we will gather, prepare, cook, and feast on the ‘fruits’ of our communal work for a Full Moon / Autumn Equinox feast and celebration.
Come and share hands on skills and knowledge of the harvesting and preparation of weeds and wild foods of SE Qld. Bring garden gloves, hat, water bottle, bags/bottles/jars, camera, pen, notebook, open heart and willingness to share in the abundance of food, skills, plant materials and community spirit.
Please come for all or part of this seasonal celebration. As a volunteer you will learn about edible plants, preparation, recipes and enjoy the communal spirit of preparing and feasting on wholesome farm-made food. If you’re coming just for the meal, feel free to bring some food to share as well or make a donation and join in the farm feast.
During the markets:
10-12 – Harvest of fruits/ veggies/ bush tucker / weeds / herbs. Begin food preparation.
Additional activities: From 10am – 1pm, the Culture Club will be hosting a beer making and hop harvesting demo at the markets. If you are interested to see how beer used to be brewed (back when beer tasted like something other than yellowy, bitter, soda water), all are welcome! A donation will be requested to cover costs for this session. For more information, please contact Simeon on 3855 8800.
