Dash Robin – Village Life Stallholder of the Week

Village Life runs every Sunday alongside our Sunday Organic Markets, providing locally-made and ecologically-sustainable products for our community.  This weekly series showcases the products and talents of our regular stallholders.

“I live in the northern suburbs of Brisbane, between beach and wetlands, and find endless inspiration in nature and community. My business, Dash Robin, is focused around the works I create and make myself using traditional skills including crochet and embroidery from recycled or eco friendly materials.  I use organic yarns, vintage fabric and buttons to create functional decorative textile art pieces including bags, toys, hats for children’s and adults, brooches and scarves.

“Aside from making and selling my work online and at markets, I make up custom items to order, have designed for local business ‘biddy bags’ and work in community arts providing workshops in various arts and crafts.”

Happy Flame Candles – Village Life Stallholder of the Week

Village Life runs every Sunday alongside our Sunday Organic Markets, providing locally-made and ecologically-sustainable products for our community.  Each week, this series showcases the products and talent one of our regular stallholders.

Happy Flame Candles started four years ago when Anca and Peter Meredith started to research and develop the art of beeswax candles making in the Northern Rivers, near Byron Bay. It took two years to produce a range of 100% pure beeswax candles that burned perfectly without the aid of additives.

They were determined to make pure beeswax candles affordable for everyone because burning a beeswax candle has many health benefits. Research has shown that when you burn a beeswax candle it emits negative ions, which act as a “cleanser” for the surrounding air.  Motivation also came when they learnt that the most commonly candle sold are made from paraffin wax. Paraffin is a byproduct of petroleum sludge and can contain up to 11 toxic compounds.

Their passion for quality hand made products is evident in every step of the candle making process. Each candle is either hand poured or hand rolled. Then each one is finished to exacting standards. This ensures they burn well, but they also look superb at all times.
