Rainbow Family Day – Sunday 26 September

Northey Street City Farm would like to extend a warm welcome to Family Rainbow Day, a celebration of and for families who associate with theLGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender) Community.

This relaxed, informal afternoon (part of the Museum of Brisbane’s Prejudice and Pride exhibition) will pay tribute to Brisbane’s Rainbow families, offering an inclusive environment for parents and kids alike.

Activities and workshops will happen throughout the afternoon including face painting for the kids, plus flag printing and storytelling for all ages.

And while you’re there, feel free to investigate Northey Street City Farm, feed the chooks and learn about edible plants and permaculture between 1pm – 4pm at our Village Life market.

A healthy organic lunch will be served between 1pm – 2pm.  All activities and lunch are FREE.  If you plan to attend, please RSVP through the contact details below to ensure everybody is catered for – but if in doubt, feel free to simply show up on the day!

Gumnut Hills Stationary – Village Life Stallholder of the Week

Village Life runs every Sunday alongside our Sunday Organic Markets, providing locally-made and ecologically-sustainable products for our community.  This weekly series will showcase the products and talents of our regular stallholders.

“Gumnut Hill Stationery grew from a search for a pocket-size memo made from eco-friendly materials. After not finding what we were looking for (but learning a lot along the way eg. ‘recycled’ paper can still contain fibre from virgin forests!), we started creating our own simple, classically styled memobooks, letter writing parchment and other stationery products.

“All our products are made of earth-friendly materials, using waterless, eco-conscious printing processes. We have also sourced a variety of other green stationery items from fine refillable fountain pens to recycled newsprint pencils.”

Village Life runs every Sunday alongside our Sunday Organic Markets, providing locally-made and ecologically-sustainable products for our community.  This weekly series showcases the products and talents of our regular stallholders.

“A little original specialises in original and practical children’s clothing and accessories. I am always ferreting around for second-hand vintage and retro fabrics and linen to upcycle, recycle and repurpose and give a new lease on life.

“At the moment I’m at home parenting our children while they are young but I’m also an ecologist so using existing resources is very important to me. I love seeing children wearing all colours of the rainbow and have an aversion to pink and blue and heavily gendered clothing. I also love creating random and unusual household decorations, things that are a bit different and unusual.

“I sew, knit and crochet and am always thinking up new items to have at my stall, so you just never know what I’m going to have from one week to the next!”
